Flux : a series of changes

My paintings are in a constantly appearing and disappearing as I add and remove layers of paint. At times they seem resolved and then I am driven to make another move and the end point changes again. The process of painting is solving a puzzle but what the puzzle is is not always clear to me. I stumbled on a comment written by a tutor on my foundation course whilst unpacking during my recent move and suddenly so much of my practice made sense.

“Cläre’s paintings are completed when she reaches a place of least dissatisfaction”.

The paint is the “thing” it always has been, the smell, the feeling the emotional memories colour and textures hold are what drives me into my studio and compels me to paint. I have been on a long rambling journey ending up accepting that a slow intuitive response to colour and marks is my happy place.
